I want to write a poem
About writer's of poems
About so much more than
Writing, yet so much in`
The trap of
The written word.
About words,
About how each year
New branches grow.
About always new layers added to the
Poet's shape,
Heartwood…
We are beyond these traps
Yet we only thrive when these
Trap roots of nourishing still feed us…
Still in a growing
That grows as much as it can,
Always reaching after more and more light...
The rain, the river
The nourishing growing
Of poets as trees…

Each starts out as only one tiny poem
Slowly built up layer upon layer
Of so many attempts
At so many tiny poems
Growing out of a previous poem,
Patience,
Persistence
Cellular division…
An Unceasing desire
And still yet another simple poem
That seeks to break free?
To move beyond what poems once were...
These roots of the writer's words
These inescapable statements
Of how far we progressed...
Earned in feedback,
Earned in repetition free
Of contempt, monotony and wrong ways.
It is in the feedback of others
That help us grow
Our new songs
We hunger this,
Yet we tell us calm and wait
We tell us winds, sun and rain
Layer upon layer
Year after year
So much patient calm in growing to sun
So many centuries...
So much in all that we need to grow us higher...
To reach out further…
I want to write a poem
About writer's of poems
Yet no poem can be this free
Only in its bliss first noticed can it be.
